McMurdo FastFind 220 is a compact personal locator beacon (PLB) designed to help search and rescue services find you quickly in an emergency, whether you’re on land or at sea. It’s the world’s first PLB to use Galileo satellite technology, alongside GPS for faster and more accurate location tracking.
When activated, the FastFind 220 sends an emergency distress signal on the 406 MHz frequency, which is monitored by the international Cospas-Sarsat satellite system. This alert is passed to the nearest Rescue Coordination Centre, allowing emergency services to begin a response within minutes. Because these satellites provide true global coverage, the FastFind 220 can be used almost anywhere in the world - even in the most remote locations.
FastFind 220 uses a dual GNSS receiver (GPS and Galileo) to determine your position with accuracy down to approximately 62 metres. Once rescue teams are nearby, they can then locate you precisely using the built-in 121.5 MHz homing signal, as well as the high-visibility flashing SOS LED light. Unlike EPIRBs, which are registered to a specific vessel, a PLB is registered to an individual. This means the FastFind 220 can stay with you wherever you go - whether you’re boating, hiking, mountaineering, or travelling in remote areas. It’s also subscription-free, with no ongoing fees after purchase.
Designed to be carried at all times, the McMurdo FastFind 220 is small, lightweight, and easy to use. It features a safely stowed antenna that automatically deploys when the beacon is activated. The long-life battery provides at least 24 hours of continuous operation once triggered. FastFind 220 is waterproof to 10 metres and comes supplied with a flotation pouch, making it easy to retrieve if used in marine environments. Reliable, simple, and globally connected, it’s a powerful personal safety device when help is needed most.
